STMA Commemorates Christmas Truce

STMA’s elective class “Memory and the Great War” presented the Tuesday December 9 Luddy Lecture as a public commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the 1914 Christmas Truce. Candles illuminated throughout a darkened auditorium as students heard actual recorded sounds of the Western Front and listened to  STMA singers perform the German Carol “Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht.” Sophomore Liliane Watkins, junior Caleb Leaser, and seniors Daniel Craig, Corey Martinez, Blake Martin, and Jack Schenk then offered a beautiful mix of visual and spoken reflections over the Truce and its enduring meanings for persons today who seek a world of solidarity, cooperation, and peace. Congratulations to the presenters and their research teams  for an outstanding event that will be long remembered by the STMA community. You can learn more about the Truce here.
