Alex Young is instructor in humanities and the Academy’s athletic director.
“I was born on the feast of the Epiphany at a time when North Carolina boasted a less than five percent Catholic population. We were the least Catholic state. I attended a boarding school in Pennsylvania and college in Virginia. I realized two things when I left North Carolina. First, I realized my love for the place, for its beaches and mountains and its kindhearted people. I also realized something about the intellectual riches of the Faith, a Faith that opened up history, literature, and philosophy for me and unlocked what it truly means to be human.”
When Mr. Young returned from his studies he came home to a different North Carolina, where Catholicism was the fastest growing religion. He also found a Catholic preparatory school “with a top-notch faculty, a school that promoted a robust approach to the humanities and embraced the riches of the Faith.”
Mr. Young earned his B.A. in philosophy at Christendom College.
