Charles McCants was born and raised in Raleigh, but went off to Virginia for greater formation in the Classics and Theology. During college he spent a number of weeks at Holy Cross Abbey, a Cistercian monastery in Northern Virginia. “I try to remain formed to the patterns of prayer, work, and virtue that I witnessed at Holy Cross. When your days are marked by hours of prayer and study, the room for sin and vice is greatly diminished.” He also completed the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the summer of 2009. “The Christian life has often been compared to a pilgrimage. The pilgrim’s journey always begins with contrition and confession, but through faith, hope, and charity, and good conversation along the way, the heavenly city is never far off.”

Mr. McCants earned his B.A. at Hampden-Sydney College, where he studied Greek, Latin, and Religion, and his M.T.S. at Duke University’s Divinity School, where he studied theology with Reinhard Hütter and Paul Griffiths. Mr. McCants teaches History and Classical Languages.
