Dr. Jake Noland

Dean of Faculty

Jake Noland was born and raised in Virginia, and as the son of a Methodist minister he lived all around the state. He began studying philosophy during his first semester at UVA and started teaching it as a graduate at Texas A&M. While in Texas he met his wife, Stormy, and they now have five wonderful children.

Prior to coming to Raleigh Dr. Noland taught Philosophy and Business at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond. He feels blessed to be a part of the Academy’s faculty. “I take great pleasure in helping students think clearly and rigorously in pursuit and defense of the truth, in helping to prepare them to live mature, vibrant Christian lives.” He is convinced that, as John Paul II wrote, “people cannot be genuinely indifferent to the question of whether what they know is true or not…The truth, which God reveals to us in Jesus Christ, is not opposed to the truths which philosophy perceives. On the contrary, the two modes of knowledge lead to truth in all of its fullness.”

Dr. Noland earned his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Texas A&M University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Service and Administration from Texas A&M, and an M.B.A. from the University of Richmond. Dr. Noland teaches a wide range of courses in the Humanities.
